Fall is here!
Pumpkins, cool nights, spiced cider, how can you not love fall? While I'm always a little sad to see our short but sweet summer go there is something so invigorating about the fall season.

Don't you just want to go out and carve a pumpkin? Halloween has got to be one of the most fun holidays around.

Do you have a costume idea for Halloween yet? Nope? Me neither. Maybe our Halloween products will give you some great ideas. However, even before Halloween, I love to just enjoy the changing seasons. I relish my last chance to get out to the farmers markets.

Don't forget to stop by your local farm stand to grab some of the great fall produce like this sweet corn and brussels sprouts. All of the photos that you've been seeing in this post are or Zach's Farm in York, Maine.

Good luck finding your way back out of here!

Hopefully I've inspired you to go out and enjoy fall to the fullest. I know I will be!

And, don't worry...summer will be back next year! If you're not lucky enough to be near a farm like we are we'll share a taste of fall with you!

Speaking of Zach's, did you know that they have a huge corn maze? It's open from noon until 6PM with flashlight tag from 7-10PM!

Behind the scenes in the Photography Studio
Hello blog readers! Did you have a nice weekend? I sure did. It was perfect beach and BBQ weather here in New England. The same 'relaxing-with-friends' feeling that we were going for in these photos.
Did you ever wonder how we make photographs like these? I photograph for our website and catalogs here in our in-house studio. I was thinking that you, our blog readers, might enjoy a snapshot showing behind the scenes on a photoshot. Below is what the studio looked like when I was shooting these summer entertaining photographs.

I'm lucky to be able to shoot in a studio that has great access to natural light so I can mix the window light with our studio lighting. And yes, we did have a big tree branch in the studio that day! Steve, one of our merchandise buyers, and I thought that it added a little touch of outdoors to the photo. What do you think? If enjoy this behind the scenes blog post let us know and we'll show you some more behind the scenes looks here at Stonewall Kitchen.

Bananas, love 'em or hate 'em? Try our banana cream pie recipe.

Bananas, class clown of the fruit world...do you love them or hate them? Is it just me or is it always the banana flavored candy* that gets left behind in the dish? I guess this is lucky for me, because I happen to love bananas. (Yes, please give me those little yellow candies passed over by others, I'll gladly partake!) Bananas always seem to be involved in jokes -- picture someone dramatically slipping on a banana peel, but the funniest of all banana items has got to be the banana cream pie. This pie seems to never be eaten and instead is only ever smashed in the face of an unsuspecting victim. Poor little pie. Well, as comical as it's reputation is, it'd like to propose it as a great choice for summer dessert. Our recipe, with a coffee caramel twist, promises not to disappoint. Don't worry, as usual I taste-tested it for you just in case. Enjoy!
Banana Cream Pie
ingredients
* 3 Tbsp. corn starch
* 1/2 cup sugar
* 4 egg yolks
* 2 cups milk
* 1/2 vanilla bean
* 2 cups banana puree
directions
1. Sift together cornstarch and half the sugar, add egg yolks and mix well.
2. Bring milk, vanilla and the rest of the sugar to a boil.
3. Temper cream into yolks. (click the link for instructions)
4. Return to stove and whisk until very thick.
5. Add banana puree to desired flavor and cool over night.
6. Pour into graham cracker crust, store bought or home made.
7. Top with fresh whipped cream flavored with a drop or two of almond flavoring or almond liquor.
8. Drizzle Stonewall Kitchen Coffee Caramel Sauce over top.
*As our Facebook fan Jilly Beanz pointed out, and I agree, real banana beats banana flavoring any day!

Excited for Easter?
Are you excited that it's almost Easter? I know I am! What a wonderful time of year. The grass is getting greener, flowers are budding, and the air is warmer. No matter if your Easter gatherings have a religious tone or are just a way to get family together it's a time of year that I know many of us look forward to. Baking the ham or lamb plus all of the sides (click links for recipes) takes a lot of effort on the part of the host. Bringing dessert is helpful, but why not show how much you appreciate your host by bring along an Easter brunch basket (below) for the family to enjoy after the gathering? This is especially good idea if you're lucky enough to be invited to the home of a great cook - make sure you're asked back for a meal again soon!

Are you craving summer?
Maybe you live in a warm weather area, but by this part of the year many of us Mainers had it with the cold weather. Do you find yourself in this boat? Perhaps you've been hearing about tropical vacations and find that you are craving one yourself. While hopping on a plane may be a bit impractical; cooking up a Mexican-inspired feast is the perfect way to get a taste of summer. So, pretend that you're jetting off to the beach and create your own fiesta!
Step one, mix up a delicious margarita! I can tell you from my own taste testing that our recipe for Sunset Margaritas is fabulous!
1 oz Tequila
2 oz Stonewall Kitchen Margarita Mixer
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Chambord
Use a lime wedge to wet the rim of a Margarita glass, then dip the rim in salt or sugar. Fill glass with ice and stir in all ingredients. Garnish with a twist of lime.

Fat Tuesday: How will you indulge?
It's Fat Tuesday; are you cooking anything special to indulge? Fat Tuesday, aka Mardi Gras, always makes me think of New Orleans. Perhaps you'd like to celebrate with some Gumbo? If so head over to this post where Phyllis shared her family's gumbo recipe with us!
If you're looking for a quicker way to enjoy shrimp tonight, try boiling shrimp with Old Bay Seasoning and some Bay leaves. It's much faster than making gumbo, but still quite tasty.
Serve with rice for a quick and easy meal. Another idea for shrimp is this Papaya Shrimp Orzo salad.
* 1 pound orzo pasta
* 2 Tbsp. olive oil
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1 lb. shrimp, peeled and deveined
* Salt and pepper to taste
* 1 jar Stonewall Kitchen Papaya Salsa
* 1/3 cup fresh parley, chopped
directions
1. Cook orzo pasta according to package directions. Drain.
2. Heat olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium high heat until oil is hot and shimmering, but not smoking. Add shrimp and sauté until they are just opaque in the center, about 4-5 minutes. Add the garlic, salt and pepper and sauté another minute.
3. Combine the orzo, shrimp, Stonewall Kitchen Papaya Salsa and chopped parsley. Toss gently and serve hot or at room temperature.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste For the Sauce:
- 1-tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon shallot, finely minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated
- 1-tablespoon brandy
- 1/2 cup Stonewall Kitchen Vidalia Onion Fig Sauce
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest, finely grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
directions
- Trim and pound chicken breasts to 1/2 inch thickness.
- Heat olive oil in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. When hot add chicken breasts and season with salt and pepper. Cook several minutes until golden, then turn chicken and cook until golden on both sides and cooked through. Remove chicken breasts and set aside. Drain off fat.
